HIKING GUIDE TO BIG BUDDHA VIA NGONG PING 360 RESCUE TRAIL

Are you planning go to Big Buddha and hike in Hong Kong? If yes, you can try a new experience and go to Big Buddha by hiking. Typically, people take a bus or cable car from Tung Chung Station. Here's your guide to Hiking via Ngong Ping 360 Rescue Trail.

WHERE TO START

We stayed in a guesthouse near the start point, and it's a green area in Hong Kong. Also checkout my video:

Our guesthouse host explained to us the trail that we'd take. If you come from another part of Hong Kong, first, you must take MTR to Tung Chung Station (exit A to the Bus terminal). Take a bus to Mun Tung Estate (Bus 39M) from in front of Mun Tung Estate, and follow a small pathway until you see this start point.

DURATION HIKING

You can choose from two different options; if you decide to hike up to Big Buddha, make sure you start early because it will take approximately 4-5 hours. But if you choose to take this trail on the way back from Big Buddha, you will need 3-4 hours.

Going up with stairs through the Ngong Ping 360 Rescue Trail with be more tiring than going down. In fact, we meet so many people who go down from Big Buddha rather than go hiking like us. Please make sure you prepare some items before starting this journey. Ensuring you to bring enough snacks or water, wear sunscreen and bring a hat. Please note this is an open area, and you will walk under the cable car route, and there is no toilet along the way.

WHAT TO SEE

This trail gives me a different perspective about Hong Kong. We all know Hong Kong is a modern city, but taking this trail will provide you with the nature side of Hong Kong, and it is so beautiful. In the first hour, you will see the view of apartment buildings.

Move a little bit higher until you step into the wooden stairs, and you will be surrounded by hills and plants. Along the way, you will see the longest highway connecting Hong Kong and mainland China. In the last hour to the destination, you can see the Hong Kong Airport, isn't it fascinating?

If you already see a bit of the Buddha Statue, it is a sign that your journey will last about 1 or 2 more hours. You can explore Ngong Ping Village and Big Buddha; it is a big place, and you probably need 2 or 3 hours to explore the whole area, including the temples.

If you choose the same way we took, please go back by Bus directly to Tung Chung Station. It's better to look at the City Gate shopping mall as they sell affordable branded items.
